Chapter 5

Chapter 5 – Share your thoughts on at least one norm and one other factor that affects discipline that the authors included in Chapter 5.  Include how you will address the norm and factor with your student in the classroom.  How can your peers assist with addressing the issues teachers face each day?  What will you do to help your peers?

  1. We chose the norm #3, It's Not My Fault. We are noticing a generation of kids and parents who play the blame game and don't accept responsibility when the student is truly at fault for doing or saying something inappropriate, has made a bad choice, or has obviously broken the classroom and school rules. We decided that we want to slow down, teach more character development, use role playing, and teach them how to speak to and get along with each other. We said we will deal with the source and not the symptoms, and could possibly offer a reward at lunchtime in each other's classrooms to students that display growth and progress in this area.
