  1. The first grade book study group chose the myth, When students break the rules, consequences must follow immediately. We find that it is hard not to respond immediately, and it is difficult to wait to speak to that student privately and impose consequences later. We spoke about how some of the children do not have positive relationship models at home, and they bring this into the classroom. We spoke of how important it is to let the students know that school is the place where they can be respected and show respect. We decided that we can support each other by offering each other our classrooms for the kids who need time away from the whole group. This way we teachers learn to wait to impose consequences until we are not angry or frustrated.
